One Year Later – A Review
It has been one year since I moved from Milwaukee to the infamous Twin Cities of Minnesota. And that means its also been one year now that I’ve been working from home. So its time for reflection.
What I have learned:
1. I should have started a yogurt franchise because we now have two in our town. Or a yoga studio. Either one is good.
2. Working from home is great, but it has its moments as well. My biggest struggle was interacting with people and losing my connections. But thanks to great friends like Tammy and Cassie, and my new friends I’ve met at the golf course (ladies night, alright!), I’m settling in better.
3. Thank goodness for Sonos, internet radio and Pandora
4. I was scared to go off on my own and start my own LLC, but now I look back and wonder why? Like my good friend, Jim, says, I’ll land on my feet no matter what. We all do, I truly believe in that.
5. I’ve gained weight since working from home. I blame less movement. Even though I workout still, I’m not walking from office to office or out to lunch. Those steps count!6. Those of you who think if you work from home, you’ll get so much done. You’ll get about the same amount done as you did when you worked at an office. What doesn’t change is your affinity to actually doing those tasks. Housework still sucks.
7. All the money I saved on gas I am now spending on Craigslist
8. What I spent 40 plus hours in the office I can do for less than 30. I blame all those meetings. And random “chat fests” with co-workers.
9. I really don’t miss the drama.
10. But I miss hearing about my co-workers lives and being a part of it.
To wrap it up: I don’t think I’ve ever had a better lesson of time, energy and output. You’ll make the time for the things that are important to you – no matter where your office location.
Thank you to my clients (yes, I have two now!) and husband for allowing me to work from home and take random, cute kitty photos like the one included.
What have been your revelations or challenges for working from home? I’d love to hear them!
I’ve enjoyed your blog so much. It feels like it’s helped me get to know you even better!
