Moving on Up…
I’m literally moving on up…to Minnesota from Milwaukee, Wis. I’ll still be with Sportsman Channel during this move – at least for a bit. But it is comforting to know the company (really my boss) values me enough to offer me employment during this difficult time of moving.
If you’ve moved to another state, you know what a beetch it is. And if you ever moved without a home to move to stuff into – you know how that stress is compounded. At least I can just repeat over and over again, “This too shall pass.”
I lived in this area we are looking at houses in for a few years before. Hubby and I were married there (today, actually, marks that date!) Did I keep those connections I had? Nope. So my first call of duty is to network like crazy and meet as many movers and shakers as I can.
The reason I’m telling this to my little blogging community is because I can foresee future posts on the perils of moving and finding a new home. While it is certainly a deviation from the main focus of my blog, I think some will find value in the lessons I’m learning.
We’ve been on two “home-buying” trips so far and those have been fruitless. I feel like it was a waste of my time. BUT, I think we are finally figuring out what we really want – space. Both inside the home and out. There is absolutely no way I’m going to live on a tiny lot with six houses staring at my patio. Even if it is a brand-new home with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. I am a country girl through and through and moving into the city is already difficult for me. Although I’m excited to have two, highly-expensive, yoga studios near me and miles of walking/biking trails. And, instead of traveling 15 minutes or more for groceries, I’ll have three stores within a 10 mile radius. So, it is definitely a trade-off system.
Although change is a mixture of feelings (excitement, sadness and so on) it is good for soul to change things up. People ask me how I feel about the move and honestly, I don’t have an answer. I just “know” this is what is supposed to happen to me and my family. So it feels right and I’ve just accepted it.
I’m taking this in baby steps. Like today, one of two PODS will arrive later, so begins the adventure of “how the hell do we pack a POD and when does the bed go in there?”
More to follow…
We welcome all new VIKINGS fans to our neck of the woods. Let me know if there is anything I can help with during the transition.
Yeah, direct flights again!
Oh yeah! So looking forward to the hub of MSP. Altho flying out of regional airports was nice (quick lines, friendly people) the non-direct flights were a bummer.
Congrats on the move. I look forward to the closer proximity and in hearing the details of what prompted the change.
Oh, and happy belated anniversary!
Thanks so much! It is kind of crazy now, but this will soon be over and we’ll back on it, laughing…hopefully.
Jim – I’m sorry to say, I’ll always be a Packers fan. But I will definitely be at Wild, Twins and Gopher games!
Good luck on the move, Michelle!
I’m still in the process of finding a place down in the TX Hill Country, at which point I’ll be making a serious relocation of my own. I’m hoping it’ll be the last time I move because, no matter how happy you are to be going where you’re going… well, moving just sucks.
But keep that attitude. This, too, shall pass!
Thanks for encouragement Phillip!
This is a great post!
Happy to hear that you’re using PODS for your move. If blogging about your moving experience sounds fun to you, we’d love to have a post or two on the PODS blog site. Feel free to email me at jennifer@podssocial.com if you’re interested.
Good luck with your move! I hope it is as stress-free as possible for you and your family : )
